Men and women raised from the dead |
God raises the dead
|
|
The Scripture teaches
that God raises the dead. When it is His will He makes some people come back
to life, making their spirit as well as their soul come into them again. The
return of the spirit as well as of the soul into the body can take place
after several minutes, or after several hours, or even after several days.
The resurrection takes place because someone prayed to God,
or even without any prayer just because God wanted to raise a certain person
from the dead. |
In the Scripture there
are several accounts of resurrections from the dead. Let us see them. |

The son of the widow in Zarephath
|
|
“And it came to pass
after these things, that the son of the woman, the
mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there
was no breath left in him. And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with
thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to
call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? And he said unto her, Give me
thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft,
where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. And he cried unto the LORD,
and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom
I sojourn, by slaying her son? And he stretched himself upon the child three
times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let
this child's soul come into him again. And the LORD heard the voice of
Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. And
Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the
house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son
liveth. And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man
of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth” (1 Kings |

“And when the child
was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. And
he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he

The dead body who touched Elisha’s bones
|
|
“And Elisha died, and
they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming
in of the year. And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that,
behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of
Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he
revived, and stood up on his feet” (2 Kings |

The only son of a widow in Nain
|
|
“And it came to pass
the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his
disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate
of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his
mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And
when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he
said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and
began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on
all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among
us; and, That God hath visited his people. And this rumour of him went forth
throughout all |

Jairus’ daughter
|
|
“And when Jesus was passed over again by
ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto
the sea. And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus
by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly,
saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and
lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus
went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain
woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things
of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered,
but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind,
and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I
shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and
she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus,
immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him
about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said
unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who
touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But
the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell
down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter,
thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. While
he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the
synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest
thou the Master any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken,
he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. And he
suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of
James. And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth
the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in,
he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him
to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the
mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the
damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her,
Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And
straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve
years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. And he charged
them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should
be given her to eat” (Mark |

The resurrection of many saints, which took place on the day Jesus
died on the cross
|
|
“Jesus, when he had
cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of
the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did
quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the
saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection,
and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many” (Matthew 27:50-53) |

Tabitha
|
|
“Now there was at
Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called
Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. And it
came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had
washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to
Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him
two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. Then Peter
arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper
chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping,
and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with
them. But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning
him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she
saw Peter, she sat up. And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when
he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive. And it was known
throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord” (Acts |

The stories told by those who have been raised from the dead
|
|
It is evident that
since the Scripture teaches that after death the soul of man goes immediately
either to Paradise (if he is saved - 2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; Revelation
6:9-11), or to hell (if he is lost - Psalm 9:17; Luke 16:19-31), he who has come
back to life tells that he continued to live after death, but the story of
the saved person is completely different from the story of the lost person. In
that the saved person says that he saw |
So keep in mind this,
that the story told by a person raised from the dead confirms fully the
biblical teaching on life after death. |
